Design in Details
Considering how living rooms function in everyday life, this project was designed to bring structure, balance, and calm to a previously undefined fireplace wall. Rather than treating the media area as furniture, the design approaches it as architecture—integrating storage, display, and technology into a single, cohesive composition. Proportion, symmetry, and material contrast were carefully controlled to create a wall that feels intentional, permanent, and visually grounded.
- Architectural Framing: The fireplace and television are visually unified through a built-in surround that anchors the wall and establishes symmetry.
- Integrated Storage: Lower cabinetry provides concealed storage, keeping daily-use items out of sight and the space visually clean.
- Open Display Shelving: Adjustable shelves allow for curated decor and personal objects without overwhelming the room.
- Material Contrast: Painted cabinetry is balanced with a solid wood mantel to add warmth, depth, and visual weight.
- Built-In Lighting: Integrated accent lighting enhances the verticality of the wall while highlighting texture and form.
Incredible Result
The finished media wall reads as a permanent architectural feature rather than added furniture. Clean proportions, balanced symmetry, and integrated storage create a calm, organized focal point for the room. The fireplace, shelving, and cabinetry work together to support everyday living while keeping technology visually controlled. The result is a refined, functional space that feels intentional, timeless, and quietly well crafted.
